Launching the Reading Workshop: Building Reading Lives

Casablanca, Morocco: October1st, 2015
By Brian Blakely

"How can I get my kids motivated about writing book reports?" I wondered to myself.
It was a Friday inservice day at CAS. All the students were out enjoying themselves. The sun was shining and the air was clear. Nobody but teachers was at the school.
I thought about my students - playing with their friends, going to the beach, enjoying life.
Then I thought about writing book reports.
"Nobody likes to write book reports." I thought to myself. "Why not?"
"Because they're boring." The simple answer.

So instead of writing book reports, we're going to be publishing book reviews, advertisements if you will of the great and exciting books that we are reading in class. Hopefully this will give my students a more engaging, and meaningful, way of expressing their enjoyment for what they are reading.
Anyway, it's worth a shot.
